FPL buys nearly 1,300 acres for another solar farm in western Palm Beach County

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In a sign that Florida Power & Light is boosting its bet on solar power, the state’s largest utility paid $19.3 million for 1,288 acres in western Palm Beach County. Ashley Barrett Bloom of SVN Florida Land Alliance, who represented the seller in the transaction, said Thursday that FPL plans a solar farm. The tract, in an unincorporated area near Westlake and The Acreage, is bordered on three sides by a residential development planned by GL Homes.

The seller was Iota Carol LLC of Newport Beach, California, according to property records. The latest proposed solar farm is in addition to a 401-acre solar plant FPL plans in Westlake, the newly incorporated municipality in western Palm Beach County. In early March, FPL powered up its four newest solar plants, bringing the count of FPL solar plants operating statewide to 14. Those solar farms are in Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie and Hendry counties.
